A Space Story 11

Vanz Kerrigan was older than he looked.  He had received many gene mods over the years in addition to several cosmetic surgical procedures.  But he knew that was not enough.  If he wanted to stay looking good and further hold off the aging process he had to discipline his body.  Vanz Kerrigan did not work out with the rest of the crew.  He had his own personal exercise equipment in his private suite.  While he did his daily exercise routine he sent Anyantha to occupy her time however she wished.  He finished one of his sets then took a drink of water and toweled the sweat off his body.
“I know you are there,” he said.  There was no answer.
“What? Surprised I know you are here.  Instincts.  That is one of the reasons I have managed to live as long as I have.  I trust my instincts.”
Kerrigan took a drink of water then said, “What do you want?”
“I thought you should know,” said a deep voice, “that they are beginning to ask questions.”
Kerrigan did not move from his seat on the exercise machine.  Nor did he make any attempt to see where the voice was coming from.
            “What kind of questions?”
“All the right ones.  It is only a matter of time before they realize they have been lied to.”
“And what do you expect me to do about it?”
“What makes you think I expect anything from you Kerrigan?”
“Because everyone expects something.  Everyone wants something.  I just do not know what it is that you want yet.”
“Do not make the mistake of thinking you can bargain with me.”
Kerrigan did not say anymore.  His instincts told him he was alone again.  He waited a long time before finishing his last set.
