The Setup Part 1

My goal was not just to write 50,000 words but to finish the story and I did.  I wrote a novel and for almost a year I have done nothing with it.  I made a few minor revisions.  I rewrote a few bits that were not quite working.  But to date only three people have read any of it.

I will be putting A Space Story here for free for anyone to read.  I am going to get my story out there for people to see.

So here is the set up.

In the future humanity has gone out to space.  There are cities on the moon and mars.  There are great space stations in orbit of every planet and moon.  Humanity was just getting ready to expand beyond out solar system.

Not long after the first ships began leaving our space and looking for new planets, the Spectral Horde attacked.  The alien ships attacked without warning or reason and for decades now humanity has been fighting a losing battle.

In order to fight this enemy the governments of the world began paying for genetic modifications for their citizens to breed a new generation of soldiers.  Gene mods were already a growing and controversial practice.  With the government paying the bill they have become the norm and now the majority of Earth's population have some sort of gene mods.

At the start of our story humanity has lost Jupiter and its moons and the Spectral Horde is getting closer and closer to Mars and Earth.  But then the International Solar Fleet Corproration announces that there is hope.  They have constructed a revolutionary new starship named the Daedlus that will turn the tide of the war.  An elite crew is selected for the Daedlus mission to win the war.

Janessa Kepshawn is selected to be a fighter pilot on the prime squad of the starship Daedlus.  Janessa is not like other pilots.  She is what people call a Natural.  She was concieved and born without any gene mods.  This is the story of her experience on the Daedlus.  The story of the people she meets there and what they learn about where the Daedlus really came from, what its true mission is and why the Spectral Horde declared war.
